Uruguay justice rules in favor of Montecable, and clears the path for triple play in the country

Supreme Court of Justice in Uruguay has deemed unconstitutional article 56 of their “Ley de Medios” (communications legislation) as a result of an impeachment filed by pay TV operator Montecable. The aforementioned article says that pay TV operators may not offer telephony and/or internet services as well.

With this ruling the norm won’t be applied to Montecable, which enables the Pay-TV operator to offer telephony and Internet services.

According to Uruguayan press, they expect multiple filings from different operators, as this type of rulings applies only in the particular case.
