Univision Holdings, the main Spanish-language network in the United States, has requested the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) permission to increase from 10% to 40% Televisa’s stake in Univision.
Currently, foreign companies can only own up to 25% stake in U.S broadcasters. Televisa supplies about 35% of Univision’s television programming and more than half of its content across other platforms.
According to El Proceso newspaper, FCC reported that will publish its comments on the operation on August 8 and will give its final answer on September 7.
In Q216, Televisa received USD 83.3 million in royalties from Univision, according to the Mexican media giant’s report.
