Televisa from Mexico presents positive 2015 results due to Pay-TV and would buy 100% of TVI


Telecommunications company Televisa from Mexico presented its annual report for 2015 where it showed positive results driven by the growth of its Pay-TV operations. In addition, the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) of that country approved with conditions the purchase of 100% of TVI or Cablevision Monterrey, operator shared since 2006 in equal parts with Grupo Multimedios.


Televisa showed a significant growth of the DTH Sky (41% owned by American AT&T) and its telecommunications operators. They were not shared by the results of its Contents division due to a 9.6% drop (always in local currency) of advertising revenues. This segment had sales in 2015 of USD 1,881 million (-1.5%, compared to 2014) and an annual profit of USD 798 million (-6%). In the fourth quarter, it showed revenues for USD 598 million (-3% year-over-year).


In the Telecommunications category, it showed growth in all its Cable TV, Internet and telephony operators (Izzi Telecom, Cablemas, Cablecom, Telecable and TVI). It had sales in 2015 for USD 1,561 million (+36.1%) and annual utility of USD 625 million (+44.7%). In 4Q 2015, it showed revenues of USD 415 million, 21.6% more than in the same period of 2014. Its video accesses totaled 4,061,655.


Sky added 230,431 subscribers in Q4, 646,000 new during 2015, to reach a total of 7,284,162 net active subscribers. Net sales in 2015 were of USD 1,055 million (+10%) with profits for USD 491 million (+9.3%). Revenues of this segment in the fourth quarter were of USD 275 million, 11.7% higher compared to 4Q 2014.


Televisa’s total annual net sales were of USD 4,824.5 million, representing an increase of 9.9% compared to 2014. In the fouth quarter of 2015, the company had revenues of USD 1,367 million, 3.9% more than in the same period of the previous year. Televisa consolidated the purchase of Telecable in January 2015 and would do the same with TVI.
