Free-to-Air signal Telefe (Telefonica) from Argentina launched UPlay Network with 50 YouTube (Google) channels to strengthen its commitment on digital contents and extend its reach to new generations, natural consumers of internet platforms.
The channels’ community of artists and creators was selected through the so-called UPlay Challenge, an open call launched in August 2015 to engage local talents based on the five categories present today on the new platform: humor, video blog, lifestyle (beauty, cooking, etc.), music (including dance) and video games.
The channels will be self-sustained but will have Telefe’s technical support (studios, production training, marketing and legal issues). Besides, it was announced that they would be adding more channels throughout the year. New talents can apply through uplaynetwork.tv.
“It is a very important step forward for a Free-to-Air television channel. The idea is that these contents could be issued in all of our platforms, and there is even the possibility in the future to ask for specific content to be produced”, said the Director of Global Contents of Telefe, Tomas Yankelevich, during the presentation of Uplay, quoted by the Prensario International website.
“We have a four-year relationship with Telefe and this launching undoubtedly strengthens our content alliance. Our platform receives 1 billion visitors each month accessing 300 billion hours of content”, said on her behalf the representative of YouTube Partnerships, Carolina Bertoni.
