The Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC) from Colombia ruled in favor of the private channels RCN and Caracol in its conflict with pay TV operators América Móvil, Telefónica, DirecTV, ETB and UNE.
According to SIC, operators cannot broadcast Caracol and RCN signals, in SD and HD, without prior authorization. Both channels had initiated legal proceedings against operators alleging unfair competition.
In a statement, the National Association of Public Utilities and Communications (Andesco), which gather the pay TV companies, said that “respects the decision taken by the SIC, however it is being appealed and therefore it is not definitive”.
Last July, the Court of Justice of the Andean Community (CAN in Spanish) had also supported RCN and Caracol by this same conflict.
