Satellite providers propose adopting DTH services to expand cable coverage in Mexico

Several satellite service providers considered that small and medium-sized cable companies in Mexico could expand their coverage in rural areas if they gather to adopt DTH services.

“We satellite providers offer the possibility of combining cable TV and satellite as a substitute”, said Peru Sagarna, Country Manager for Mexico at Hispasat, reported El Universal.

However, this business model would be possible if cable operators collaborate to form one group, Hispasat’s Country Manager stated, during its participation in Convergencia Show 2016.

Richard Kohlweg, Sales Director for Latin America at Intelsat, considered that this type of partnership also allows operators to have grater negotiating power with content programmers.

In turn, Carlos Gutierrez, Sales Manager at SES, said that cable operators could also add satellite internet services to their offer. “This is one of the advantages of the satellite, to be able to reach remote areas where there is no terrestrial communication”, the executive added.
