Russian channel RT en Español was also removed from the DTT grid of Argentina

The international news channel RT en Español, owned by the Russian state, was also removed from the grid of the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) system in Argentina, within days of the withdrawal of international Venezuelan channel Telesur.

“It is regrettable that the new Government of Argentina, which from the beginning showed its tendency to rapprochement with the United States, rejects an alternative view point. I would not be surprised that in that frequency CNN would appear rather than a regional channel”, stated the Issue Director of RT en Español, Victoria Vorontsova.

RT en Español was launched in 2009 with permanent correspondents in Miami in the US, Buenos Aires in Argentina, Madrid in Spain, Caracas in Venezuela and Havana in Cuba. The channel was included in Argentina’s DTT in October 2014. In late March, the Argentine government announced that it would withdraw its stake in Telesur and eliminate the signal.

RT, formerly known as Russia Today, is the news channel with the most number of views in the free Video On Demand platform YouTube (Google). In December 2015, RT surpassed the 3 billion hits mark.
