Pay-TV subscribers in Ecuador grew from 1,210,575 by December 2014 to a total of 1,351,470 at the end of 2015, representing a growth of 140,895 new households over last year. Most of these subscribers were added by the National Telecommunications Corporation (CNT).
According to figures published by the Telecommunications Regulation and Control Agency (Arcotel), there was a slight slowdown in the industry, which has been outperforming since 2011. However, the penetration of subscription television rose nearly three percentage points, going from 28.7% in 2014 to 31.5% by December 2015.
The CNT got 138,211 new accesses during this period, which represents the bulk of the new subs. Nevertheless, telecommunications company DirecTV (AT&T) is still leader with 33.9% of the market share, while the CNT has 25.9%. Grupo TV Cable has 15.4%, Univisa 3.5%, Conecel 2.9%, Cableunion 2.2%, Ecuadortelecom 1.8% and the rest 14.2%.
