Spanish telecommunications company Telefonica will launch in Costa Rica its OTT Movistar Play (movistar.cr/movistar-play) for its mobile customers, according to local daily La Republica. Users will be able to try the service for a month without any charge.
“We confirm that in the coming weeks we will be launching our video service in the country, for which we will soon be announcing the details of our commercial offer in this field”, said Movistar Costa Rica’s Communications Manager, Karla Espinoza, to the newspaper.
Telefonica already offers this service in Latin America in countries like Brazil (Vivo Play), Argentina (Video On), Chile (Movistar Play), Colombia (Movistar Video) and Uruguay (Movistar Play). In addition, it will launch VOD and linear channels in other six new countries in 2016: Peru, Ecuador, Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua.
Telefonica presented at the end of February 2016 its annual report for 2015 in which it registered a record of 538,000 new Pay-TV accesses in Latin America, reaching 4.6 million households in its Spanish speaking America and Brazil divisions.
