Netflix confirms first Brazilian feature film

Netflix announced through a press release that it will produce in Brazil its first original feature film. The Movie, called “O Matador”, will be available in the 190 countries where Netflix now operates. The Brazilian company Gatacine will serve as the producer of the project.

Created by Marcelo Galvão, the story is a western that is set between the 1910s and 1940s and tells the story of Shaggy (Diogo Morgado), a feared killer in the state of Pernambuco, who returns to his hometown to look for ‘Seven Ears’ (Deto Montenegro), the man who raised him. The company will begin filming this month.

“O Matador is a great addition to our programming strategy as it is a story that will cross borders and find its way to global audiences as it combines a unique storytelling and a multinational cast,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos.

In March, Netflix announced the start of production on “3%”, its first Brazilian original series, which will have 8 episodes recorded entirely in 4K technology. It is produced by Films Boutique.
