Telecommunications company Movistar (Telefonica) in Chile is considering producing its own content, original and licensed, for local audiences. They would be released on their VOD and TV Everywhere platform Movistar Play.
“We are evaluating possibilities for generating content”, said Marketing Manager of Movistar Chile, Paula Figueroa, to local media at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016, held in the Spanish city of Barcelona.
“We must first get the licensing, where we have already advanced, and second, we have some alternatives for production”, said Figueroa. One of the aspects that they are evaluating is to launch the shows through Movistar Play which, according to the executive, could close 2016 with more customers than Netflix in Chile.
“In Chile we are kind of spectators to the worldwide phenomenon (of streaming services and their original content) and we are seeing that Chilean contents for the Chilean public are absolutely craved. The industry should be boosted, make a contribution to the local content industry”, said the director.
