Morbido TV to launch SVOD mobile app

Morbido TV, the channel dedicated to horror movies, is close to launch a mobile SVOD app that will offer both the linear channel and a VOD content library, told NexTV News Latam Eduardo Caso, General Manager of IB Broadcasting Company.  The launch of the app for Windows 10 is set to launch this week. The version for Android will be available in late November and for iOS in December (or January).

Initially, the Windows app will offer other related contents such as podcasts of Radio Morbido, the online publication Morbido Magazine, and access to social networks. The channel -and the VOD library for ‘catch up’- will only be available when the app reach an “interesting volume” of downloads, said Caso. The goal is for this to occur between January and February next year, after the launch of the app for iOS devices, the executive added.

To access the linear channel and its VOD library, users will have to pay a monthly subscription that, according to Caso, has not been defined yet, but would be around USD 1 and USD 2. However, subscribers of pay TV service with Morbido TV channel in their lineups (currently only Totalplay in Mexico) will have free access to the VOD catalog, using a similar model adopted by other channels for their TV Everywhere platforms. The SVOD service will be available across Latin America (except Brazil).

Morbido TV has 560 hours of programming of which about 40 hours will be available in VOD, Caso explained. According to the executive, a differential factor is that the channel has experience in the genre and enjoys the support of several festivals around the world. “We are experts in terror, we have that niche market and a base of 3 million followers on social networks,” he said.

IB Broadcasting Company is part of AG Studios and is in charge of the production of the channel and its digital environment. Morbido is the TV channel of Morbido Film Fest, the Mexican International Horror and Fantasy Festival, held since 2008.
