América Móvil’s 3Q2011 report informed that its Brazilian DTH Via Embratel recorded over two million subscribers in less than two years of operations. As of September, in Latin America, América Móvil recorded 12,5 million Pay-TV subscribers.
Via Embratel is the second DTH in Brazil in terms of number of subscribers, after SKY (DirecTV-Globo). The operator had recorded its first million subscribers at 2010 closing. In such country, satellite TV is clearly growing and has already outperformed cable TV. As of September closing, DTH systems together accounted for a 52.7% market share, according to information disclosed by the Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency. Telefónica, Oi and CTBC, among others, also operate DTH services in the country.
In its report, América Móvil does not discriminate the number of subscribers recorded in each of its Pay-TV operations in Latin America. Net records the greatest number of clients, 4,4 million users as of 2Q closing, according to the aforementioned agency.
América Móvil relies on Pay-TV operations in Colombia, Central America, Peru, Ecuador, Chile and Paraguay, all of them -except Colombia (Telmex)- under Claro brand.
