According to information recorded as of September by the Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency, Pay-TV in such country added 2,1 million subscribers during the year, thus reaching a total of 11,88 million clients. In September, 258,000 new clients were added; therefore, the sector is expected to record over 12 million users by year end.
In September, the DTH recorded 6,26 million users and a 52.7% market share. Cable recorded 5,36 million clients and a 45.1% market share. MMDS systems recorded about 258,000 subscribers.
From January to September, the accrued increase accounted for the 21.7%. During the third quarter, Pay-TV recorded a 7.03% growth. Only in September, the sector grew a 2.2%. During such month, the DTH recorded a 3.6% growth and Cable TV an 0.8%; whereas, MMDS systems lost a 2.3% of their client base.
A few months ago, the Brazilian Pay-TV Association forecasted that Pay-TV subscriber base would record 12,5 million users by year end. By 2010 end, the industry recorded 9,76 million subscribers, according to what the National Telecommunications Agency disclosed. In turn, in September 2011, Pay-TV was present in the 19.8% of Brazilian households.
