US OTT Hulu joined the rave over virtual reality technology and announced that it launched its new mobile app for Samsung Gear VR, a device that adapts smartphones of the Japanese brand to a 360º 3D vision video viewer.
The company joins a trend that has already dabbled some of the leading technology companies like Google, Apple and Netflix. The new app includes content from programmers Showtime, Viacom, RYOT, NatGeo, among others, in addition to 2D material from their own catalog.
The advantage of this app, unlike the one by its direct competition, Netflix, is that while the latter only supports a quality of 480p, Hulu’s content has quality close to Ultra High-Definition (UHD-4K) and its 2D catalog is in 720p, which is the minimum to be considered HD. The disadvantage is that, like the original OTT, is not yet available in Latin America.
