Fox acquires rights to international best seller “Santa Evita”

Fox Networks Group (FNG) Latin America announced that it has acquired the rights to “Santa Evita” – the novel written by Tomás Eloy Martínez – to create the first series based on the book. The announcement was made during Mipcom 2016.

The novel was published in 1995 and combines real fact and fiction to tell the story of the corpse of former first lady of Argentina Eva Duarte. The book became a bestseller and was translated into several languages.

The TV series will have eight one-hour episodes and is set to begin pre-production and filming next year, as detailed Edgar Spielmann, EVP & COO of Fox Networks Group Latin America. “The next steps will be to develop the scripts using “writers room” which will be composed of several Latin American writers”, the executive added.

This way, Fox deepens its strategy to produce original content in Latin America. At Mipcom 2016, the group also announced the winning projects of the first Fox Original Productions’ call. The chosen proposals were “Zombies Media” of Nicolas Chiesa from Argentina (but living in Peru), and “Isla Negra”of Chilean Mateo Iribarre and Carolina Correa. Both projects will be developed by the team of Fox Original Productions next year.
