Brazilian channel Esporte Interativo (Turner) obtained the rights to broadcast on pay-TV all the matches of Palmeiras – the current champion of Campeonato Brasileiro – for the 2019-2024 season, according to Lance. This way, the team selected Turner’s channel offer, instead of renewing with Globo. The agreement has not been officially announced yet.
This is the eighth agreement that Esporte Interativo closes with a team of Serie A of the Brazilian championship. As reported earlier this year, Turner’s idea is to conclude deals with at least eight clubs of Serie A league, so the media company would have achieved its goal. The agreement is only for pay TV and does not interfere with Free-to-air TV rights.
According to Lance, the agreement with the team from São Paulo would be around R$ 100 million (USD 29 million). The other teams of Serie A league that already signed agreements with Esporte Interativo are Atlético-PR, Coritiba, Inter, Ponte Preta, Santos, Figueirense and Santa Cruz.
