Discovery bought a significant share of the group that owns Mega TV in Chile

US programmer Discovery Communications announced on a press release that it had signed an agreement to acquire 27.5% of Bethia Group, company that owns Free-to-Air TV channel Mega from Chile. It is expected that the closing of the transaction will occur in the coming days, subject to satisfactory completion of customary conditions.

“The signing of this agreement comes to crown the work we have been doing for years and that will promote the internationalization of Mega. The plan to become a producer of internationally relevant content is maintained and powered with this alliance”, stated the President of Bethia Group, Carlos Heller.

“Discovery is a global company that is continually evaluating opportunities to expand its presence around the world and particularly in Latin America, where TV consumption continues to grow. Chile is an important country in Latin America where we are proud to increase our presence by this opportunity to collaborate with the great team of Mega TV”, said on his behalf the General Director of the programmer in the region, Enrique R. Martinez.
