The Canal+ Group from France announced on April 7th that it had bought through its US subsidiary Thema the Latin American channels distributor owned by Eutelsat Americas, Alterna TV.
Alterna TV distributes for the Hispanic audience in the United States Latin American signals such as Canall 22, Canal 11, CB Television, PXTV and AyM Sports from Mexico, Latin America Sports from Puerto Rico and Telemicro from the Dominican Republic. It has a range of more than 10 million subscribers, according to the company.
Thema was founded in 2005 and acquired in 2013 by Canal+. It distributes channels internationally in over 100 countries in Europe, Africa and the Americas. The agreement includes a long-term license of Eutelsat’s satellites 113 West-A and 117-A West capabilities.
